Ethics Violations at University School & TU

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Elie Wiesel

Short Story:

The 3 directors at University School tried to kick our son out of school because he showed signs of ADHD. They also had a TU security guard sit directly outside the door as they lied, harassed and discriminated. At the bottom of this page is a recording of the meeting with Pat Hollingsworth, Debbie Price and Amber Gates (pictured here) The provost office offered to investigate the situation and decided to create a report full of lies and basically said the administrators did nothing wrong and that we are completely at fault.

1. Our son was making all A’s and B’s.
2. He had some issues with getting up and roaming around and some small behavior issues.
3. We met with the 3 directors and discussed these issues and said we’ll get him tested for ADHD.
4. The directors still mailed us a letter to sign saying he can not go to the school.
5. We had our son tested and he was diagnosed with ADHD. We were relieved because now we know what to work on.
5. We asked to meet with the directors to discuss the test results. When we arrived, so did a TU security guard who sat directly outside the door as we met. We told them about the diagnoses and they would not allow him to attend school for more than one year even if he continues good grades and his ADHD is under control.
6. We immediately took care of his ADHD and he continued to go to school there after reporting them to Roger Blais.
7. He CONTINUED making A’s and B’s and had good behavior.

8. TU then tried to blame my wife and I for this situation and said there was no misconduct by the directors.
9. Debbie Price eventually received a promotion, even though she did all of this, plus has NO teaching or classroom experience.
10. The directors admitted they knew the signs of ADHD.
11. The directors know what twice-exceptional students are.
12. They did not want a councilor at the school and the Provost office agreed they have that right.
13. The directors did not offer an IEP or 504 plan which they were suppose to. It appears this is how they have been running the school for many years. I wonder how many students and parents have been through this experience.
14. The directors have been getting away with this type of behavior for years and TU failed to look into how the directors run the school.

Long Story:

This is how TU abuses their power, does not follow their own code of ethics, policies and flat out lie. The report from Winona Tanaka are full of LIES and trying to protect tenured faculty.

Updates:

• I sent this information to Diane Wilson who’s a licensed councilor at the school.  Here is her exact response:  Do Not Ever contact me again.  I won’t speak to you about this.
I thought councilors suppose to have empathy and certainly be respectful and professional?

• I submitted this information to Frederic Dorwart to let him know how TU handled this situation. What he did was give it right back to TU. I asked him on the phone if he reviewed and listened to the recording, he said no and hung up. I thought he might be interested in this especially since he’s on the board of GKFF.

Debbie Price Update:
This is the kind of stuff teachers have to put up with.
Cheryl Shane wanted to go home 30 minutes early a couple of weeks ago because she had a headache, so Debbie started rattling off policies that she needs to follow in order to leave early, even though Debbie is gone quite often and even took off a week later for a “mental health day”. I told Cheryl, next time you need to plan your headaches better! 🙂   Within a few hours TU contacted her saying she needs to get a Covid test and stay home until the results come back.

TU’s Final Response:
no misconduct was found. Here’s the email.

This is a partial recording we had with the University School Directors

Listening to myself, I realize how silly it is to call the school and students GIFTED.

This is the full recording.

You can hear Pat Hollingsworth admit that she knows the signs of ADHD. Also listen to her comment about not having a councilor at the school.
